When we talk about digital nomadism in Morocco we use to think about Marrakech or other big cities like Fes or Casablanca. Some adventurers also go to Dakhla or Tagazhout (especially the ones who love surf).
However, there is another destination gaining popularity among Digital Nomads : Essaouira. With its captivating blend of history, culture, and natural beauty, offers a wonderful and enchanting experience for visitors and residents alike. Nestled along Morocco’s Atlantic coast, this picturesque coastal town boasts charming blue-and-white medina walls, bustling souks filled with local crafts, and a laid-back atmosphere that invites relaxation and exploration. With its mild climate, pristine beaches, and world-class windsurfing and kitesurfing conditions, Essaouira is a paradise for outdoor enthusiasts. From wandering through the narrow streets of the medina to savoring fresh seafood at seaside cafes, Essaouira captivates the senses and leaves a lasting impression on all who visit or choose to call it home.
The very good news is that on May 8th a summit called “Digital Nomads Connect Morocco: Shaping the future of work and travel” took place in Essaouira with some of the most important national and local authorities.
Organized by Consensus Public Relations and SafetyWing, in collaboration with the city of Essaouira and the Foundation for Research, Development, and Innovation in Science and Engineering, under the theme “Digital Nomads Connect Morocco: Shaping the future of work and travel” this two-day summit aims to explore in-depth the possibilities offered by Essaouira for digital nomads. It is in this perspective that Lamiae Benmakhlouf, the General Manager of Technopark Morocco, highlighted the pivotal role of this structure in supporting Moroccan and foreign startups and digital nomads.
Some other important quotes by authorities :
Thanks to the numerous development projects undertaken in the city, such as the Technopark, Essaouira is on the verge of emerging as a destination of choice for digital nomads in search of professional opportunities, a serene lifestyle, and an environment conducive to creativity and innovation.
Adil El Maaliki, Essaouira province Governor
During the summit, André Azoulay (adviser to king Mohammed VI) highlighted Essaouira’s exceptional status as a global hub for cultural exchange and human connection, Azoulay reiterated the firm commitment to support initiatives aimed at strengthening its digital ecosystem and providing a welcoming environment for digital nomads from around the world.
National and local authorities seem to be very well aware of Digital Nomadism and willing to develop good destinations for this kind of visitors. This is a very good news for DN hoping to live in a city designed for them. We will see how exactly Technopark and other infrastructures will be developed in Essaouira. We also work very hard to provide accomodations in this city, stay tuned to get fresh listed apartments in Essaouira designed for DN !
